Placemaking and creating community.
-
Dream it.
An organization was seeking a re-use of its vacant 12,000 square foot building that was a drain on its limited financial resources.
The building had an unusual layout, was affected by heavy road noise, and had limited parking nearby. After considering various options, Brooks assisted the organization in developing a brand concept for a community center that would benefit the local community.
The center would offer affordable space to practitioners who wanted to contribute to the community through educational and wellness services.
Wellness centers provide a way to connect practitioners to the communities they serve.
-
Plan it.
To ensure operational efficiency, the focus was on establishing the building as a member-led community of wellness professionals.
Brooks led the development and adoption of a community compact, which outlined the collaborative efforts and shared interests of all stakeholders involved in running the community center.
To enhance the welcoming atmosphere and provide visual interest, an art exhibit was incorporated into the center. This allowed visitors to experience different artworks during each visit.
-
Build it.
Brooks supported the project with capital fundraising, design, construction project management, marketing and sales.
Within one year, the client was able to recover the project costs and achieved a positive cash flow shift of $70,000 within two years. Most importantly, the community now had access to a valuable resource.
